Back In Arkansas

By Bonnie McGill
Key 0f D BPM 114

He looked up and saw the flag
Blowing in the windg
He was thinking if he had tog
He'd do it all again

His brothers all around him,
In their make shift red cross beds,
With thoughts of home and family
Running through their heads

For years they fought the battle
That was still too far from won,
But something greater than us all
Told us still it must be doneg

"Will there ever be a day," he thought,
"When evil couldn't win?"
"How many lives must we lay down,
Then watch it all begin again?"

Then his whole life flashed before him
As he often heard it would
As his life was slowly slipping
He prayed he'd done somebody good

"And Lord, I know you're watching,
And you saw the things I saw,
Please say hello to my wife and kids,
Back in Arkansas."

His wife no longer strong enough
To hold the tears inside
The folded flag held the cold hard truth
She no longer could deny.

She could feel his love around her,
As though it'd never end,
She told herself if she had to
She'd do it all again

One more white cross was added
To the others row on row
Two little girls held their mommy's hand
As she spoke so soft and low

"Lord, I know you're watching,
And you saw the things I saw,
Please say hello from his wife and kids
Back in Arkansas."

For years they fought the battle
That was still too far from won,
But something greater than us all,
Told us still it must be done

"And Lord I know you're watching
And you saw the things I saw,
Please say hello to my wife and kids Back in Arkansas,

Please say hello to my wife and kids
Back in Arkansas
Back in Arkansas."
